Nate Bakes Homemade Toaster Strudel Dippers for Mean Girls

Updated: Apr 12, 2021

This week Nate Bakes Homemade Toaster Strudel Dippers with a cheesecake dipping sauce for Mean Girls. This recipe was inspired by Gretchen Weiner's iconic line that references her father being the inventor of the toaster strudel. I put a twist on it and added a creamy component with a cheesecake dipping sauce.

Recipe:

Homemade Jam Recipe:

Ingredients:

- Frozen Berries of your choice (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, etc.)

- 2/3 cup sugar

- 3 tablespoons of lemon juice

- 1/3 cup cornstarch

Instructions:

  1. Add the frozen berries, sugar, and lemon juice to a sauce pan. Cook down until berries are no longer frozen and juices come out.

  2. Use a masher to crush berries and release more juices.

  3. Take out 1/2 cup of liquid and mix that with cornstarch to create a slurry.

  4. Add that bake into the pan and cook until thickened and jammy.

  5. Cool until room temperature.

Toaster Strudel Recipe:

Ingredients:

- 2 sheets of puff pastry

- Homemade jam

- 1 egg

- 1/4 cup milk

- 1 cup powdered sugar

- 2 tablespoons milk

- 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions:

  1. preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  2. To a square or rectangle of puff pastry, add a dollop of jam, making sure not to overfill.

  3. Add the second piece of the same size on top and crimp shut with a fork, pressing down with enough force to close the sides.

  4. Whisk egg and milk together and brush the tops of all the strudels, making sure to get every crevice.

  5. Refrigerate for 10 mins and then bake for 17-21 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

  6. If they have puffed too much, press them down slightly between two sheet trays.

  7. Combine the milk, sugar, and vanilla until smooth and creamy, drizzle over the strudels after cooled.

Cheesecake Dip Recipe:

Ingredients:

- 8 ounces soft cream cheese

- 4 Tablespoons soft unsalted butter

- 1/2 cup powdered sugar

- 1/4 cup brown sugar

- 1 teaspoon vanilla

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  1. Cream together butter and cream cheese until smooth and no lumps remain.

  2. Add in both types of sugar and beat again until smooth.

  3. Add vanilla and salt and fold in.

  4. Leave to come to room temperature before serving.

Plating:

- Add the cheesecake dip into a bowl, much like a dipping sauce for crudités.

- Plate toaster strudel dippers around dip bowl.

- Enjoy!!!
